Note: I've changed the name of the town from Cape Korre to Cape Qorre due to the fact a lot of places/things (including some DW RP game I didn't hear of until the other day) named Kore/Korre already exist and I don't want to be accused of ripping anything off. OH WELL.

CANTO X – OLYMPIA

The history of music is long and rich and as old as time
With bards and mermaids and gods ever looking for a perfect rhyme
Even I have been known to steal a beat of two off of their works
And into my own rhymes and stories I will so rework
Scrolls longer than the roads in this town exist on shelves
In which forever a mind can study and delve
And come out with rhymes true and stories new
Upon a will of a line we will ever make do
Have ye ever tried to read a history complete as ours
Upon which would take years and some hours
ye can thank us bards and the singers in every race far and wide
For which recounting to ye these histories we doth so make our pride
Instead of ye having to rhyme on yer own or struggle to read
The tales of our world we will give up to ye and feed
Feast on our words and our tales long and deep
And the history of our kind long may shall ye keep
I have always found it easier to rhyme and remember
Than through history lessons I would often do blunder
Minds are keener and neater than one might think they would be
And stories and facts are easier stored with a memorable rhyme scheme
In this we find stories and people with lungs that can go on for days
Looking not for any infamy or any ill gotten praise
We just prefer to tell stories night and tell them by day
And themes and morals we have in these tales a greater array
It is my job proudly to share this story with ye my good ser always attentive
And in my rhymes I have found ye always enraptured and very retentive
yer brain will be filled with our history in a day or two more
Tales of our town by the shimmering shoal near our shore
ye may not be able to remember thousands of words of rhymes
Or be able to remember at which place our events took so in time
But the facts will remain
Deep within yer seafaring brain
And with that I can call it a success almighty
As ye sail out and search for coins and gemstones all shiny
Even if half of my rhymes are not as true as ye would like them to be
No truer a bard would ye find as one offering my services free
And so we continue on with the importance of rhymes now in place
As I recite a tale of a singing contest and a stanza filled race
I hope yer ears are clean and free
Of any brine clogging them from the nearby sea

So I have spoken the name
Of one that brings our own a bit of kindlier fame
Her name was Olympia, and she a was a lot to surmount
Of her singing skills and rhymes she would oh so openly flaunt
She swam up here during our accursed embargo and what did she do
When Captain Cecily demanded she stay in the port or her life she would slew
Olympia but laughed in the face of the ghoul hearty and loud
Her laugh ranger truer than any thing this town could but sound
She was a proud woman who had swam many a mile to greet
Our townsfolk with a smile and would ignore the queen's greed
So in it she would climb up and laugh at her threats bold and loud
She would display an arrogance to herself ever so proud
It was refreshing for the folk under the tyrant queen's rule
To hear someone brag and to themselves stay true
This Olympia shimmered with a skin an olive tan in the sun
And from emeralds and sapphires her scales did seem spun
She went topless and showed not an ounce of mortal shame
And oh so arrogantly declared a challenge to Captain Cecily's name
Around her neck was a necklace of coral red hewn
And by that red Captain Cecily did turn and did fume
She was enraged that another woman would dare on her claim
Try to take over her town and spit and shit on her fame
Olympia was not one who cared for people like the tyrant queen
And enjoyed making her spew a rage ever so mean
It was loud and it was awful in our town ever so while
And Captain Cecily claimed that Olympia she yet would defile
Be it by song or by rape or conquest with blood and sword
She would make Olympia sing her very last words
And practiced to our chagrin day and in night long and hard
Trying her best to become some disgusting sea bard
Her tune was ever so off imitating the tales of mermaids far
Twas a curse of all sirens to never quite be up to par
No matter how long she stood in her mansion and crooned
The day to sing against Olympia drew ever too soon
And out towards the rock where Olympia's statue does sit
She took The Blind Whore and on the bow she did sit
With impatience now great and her temper now short
She sailed out from our foggy old port
Upon her ship she called for the mermaid who challenged her so
And threatened to capture her and to the depths of hell she would go
All Olympia could do was laugh and slowly saunter on out
And to the same threat she gave the pirate queen in a hearty shout
From her lungs she declared if she could not catch her fair
Then upon her port town down south no embargo could bear
Captain Cecily would have to make do with the ships coming in
And making trade fairly with the townsfolk and kin
Not a single box nor coin could she interrupt between them
Should Olympia beat her and steal from her a shining gold win
Captain Cecily was incensed and so to say the least
And declared upon the mermaid's sweet guts she would yet feast
Using and abusing her body as same as the port side whores
She would leave her for dead upon our shining sandy shores
And the embargo would go through like any pirate would want
Making sure the town that she ruled could find help all but not
The queen was cruel and disgusting and taunting
But the competition was something her blood soon found wanting
Any kind of game was good to her so long as she could have a chance to fling
Insults at her opponent even if all the fight had no bullets to sling
The two did agree to the terms and shook hands upon that rock in the sea
Olympia challenging to a sing off against the cavalier corsair Captain Cecily
And with those words sealed everyone in town did hear
And for Olympia all of them did bravely do cheer
Angering the pirate queen was not something they feared
Even if death awaited them for the act they ever did jeer
Mocking her from afar the folk did with mugs of rum up on high
Raising their mugs to offer to the gods living up in the sky
Almost as if giving a prayer one not solemn nor low
They wanted the gods themselves to see this horrible show
And with that prayer now sung and the town now half drunk
Olympia declared their fight to begin against this pirate queen punk
The made a few steps away from the other and about face they did turn
The other they hoped with their rhymes they would spurn
And their chests puffed out and in with the air they did breathe
Neither one expecting any kind of rest or reprieve
Only their eyes met and steady they did at each other gaze
Upon their mossy and pebbly rocky ocean stage
The two stood face to face on that rock and took in a breath mighty and deep
And so began their duel with their voices echoing into the deep blue reefs

Did I mention that Olympia bravely did stand
By the end of the rock with the ocean she turned back
Her tail balanced so swiftly on the end as she did sing
Waiting for the pirate queen's turn for a rhyme to ring
And as the two traded the stanzas they would spin
About trade and of questing and of lasses they did bedding
And of lads brave and true
That set out to conquer the ocean blue
And of coin and of gem and sea beasts unrivaled
And the fate of the world and its history unravel
Olympia was smart to watch at the chest and the hips
Of her enemy sitting near the port of her ship
Lest she attack and so she in could leap
And away from the queen she would dive in the reefs
And as it ever so happened near the last verse of their songs
That had gone on from dawn to dusk it was ever that long
Captain Cecily began to grow weary for out of practice was she
Singing was not something she had done since Qorre she did sieze
It had got her right where it absolutely did matter
And at once her body collapsed on the rock in ever a clatter
Olympia laughed and with that gave a wave of her tail
And into the ocean she dove in as the pirate queen failed
Captain Cecily was enraged and got on her ship fast
Trying to give chase to the mermaid whose lungs did outlast
She would not lose again not like with this town's political game
She would not have this marked forever on her name
But much to her shame the mermaid was long away
Swimming away back to her town in her warmer home bay
And the pirate queen had lost and knew she had shown
Skills so undeveloped and against her pride was blown
A mighty mark that could be seen by even the gods up and down
She would not be able to place an embargo on that southernly town
And for the people in Qorre this was a reason to party
And of ale and of rum they would drink up quite hearty
For even one route of trade open would keep them alive
They may make it out of her rule yet and ever do thrive
As they did in the days before Captain Cecily docked
And against their lives she strongly did rock
But another loss was against the pirate queen and she did reel
She could not capture the winner this time and take them to keel
Unlike the Mayor, Olympia got away and stayed hidden through
Her scales camouflaging well in the deep ocean waves blue
She knew that all she had to do was wait and see the siren fall down
That even The Blind Whore could not a mermaid outrun
By that edge she was safest when she could fall back in water
And it was in that position Captain Cecily's plans ever did falter
And for a small bit peace did reign in our town once again
As the pirate queen retreated back into her hillside den
Now ye know why that rock has a statue of her on that edge
Because on our town's safety her bets she did hedge
And with her luck she saw it through to the end
And forever may her name be known to our town as a truest of friend
Without that bet ballsy and fear she did not show
There is no telling how much longer our town would row
And have to fight itself against the pirate queen fierce
But with that loss once again her defenses were pierced
The town saw not of her again for a month or two long
That ever embarrassed over running out of breath during a dueling song
Our town could resupply and recoup ever loss that we had taken
And our thirst and our hungry in supplies from south was slaked
It was with this we had a chance to fight back or hide just a little bit longer
Thanks to the pirate queen's loss and her blunder

And for a while our silvery sands glowed a gold on our shore
Peace returning for a bit yet to our mighty Cape Qorre

And whence next a new tale of treachery
Shall I sing to ye of cavalier corsair Captain Cecily
