WC: 50045/50000 - YEAR 11 OF 11 WON
“GAHHHH!” Cortes cried, his body beginning to dissolve and glow gold.
“S-Serves you right…. Gahhhhk!” Guzman followed suit.
“W-Why have you forsaken us? I swore my spirit unto you for untold power in order to take this land as I have all others!” Cortes cried, holding his bleeding wounds as he looked at the women who had bested him, knowing that some of them thought he had this a long time coming. “I… Thought we were friends.”
“I never promised you anything more than the power to burn those around you! I never promised victory over anything specific, just that so long as you were under me I would gladly pay you enough of my power to burn whatever was in your way! Too bad you were met with a stronger counter flame, huh?” Haborym laughed.
“I should never have trusted you!” Guzman yelled at both of them. “This whole contract was rotten to the core. You never intended for us to be anything more than damage sponges, didn’t you? I’m never working in this town again!”
“So mad, so angry, so vengeful even up until you die again. Perfect, feed me your loathing so that my flames grow stronger.” Haborym watched with his thousand eyes in delight as his two strongest subordinates left this plane of existence.
“I’ll… I’ll hunt you down yet and take your land! Count on it….” Cortes threatened Atma and Calafia as he faded back out of existence to whatever rotten piece of spirit origin let him be a summonable servant.
“Rotten bastards, the lot of you… I hope you burn down too, Haborym! You have no place here! Please… Kill him. Not for me, but because… He doesn’t belong… Rotten bastard… Gahh!” Guzman was a bit more sympathetic but still went back to where he was summoned from, feeling betrayed and robbed by everyone and everything to the last yet again.
“Hahaha, idiots. Why do they think they’d be summoned to my side otherwise? They were contracted to me and did what I intended for them to. Worthless, though, in the end. All they did was add fuel to this Root’s fire to want to come after me! But well, here she is, without me having to hunt her down, and all I have is unfettered access to killing her now!”
With that last taunt, Haborym began to twist and turn, the pillar he was becoming the very tower where PG&E once stood, all of it, all the wires and poles and metal, swallowed up into him and making him go from the ground and up into the sky high above. Nothing else in California was in sight. Perhaps even the whole country, or the whole world. It felt like they were stuck in another plane, just them, with Calafia mumbling something to herself.
“You retreated to this plane to taunt me not long ago and insist I keep you company there. And now you’re back, drawing us all in. Are you afraid, Haborym?” Calafia taunted.
“A DEMON AS POWERFUL AS I AM NEVER AFRAID!” Haborym roared, great flames shooting everywhere. His reach grew larger and hotter with a circle of evil, dark flames surrounding him from all sides, meaning nobody could enter or leave.
“So, what shall it be, Root?” Calafia smiled. “Let me assist you as the Grand Ruler. Just this once.”
“The Grand Ruler AND the Root in one go...” Haborym cackled. “Do you realize what you’ve done?”
“Plenty.” Atma laughed and just shot her sword up defiantly towards the sky. “You really don’t know who the hell I am do you? Never once heard of any woman coming to me to escape your flames? Don’t think I’ve never heard of you or what you can do. You’ve been bested by me and my women before, idiot. This time I’ll make you remember my sword!”
“You really wish to die here?”
“I wish to live, Haborym. Something you have no concept of.”
“Well, here they are, the two biggest thorns in my side, delivered to me in a tight little package. My luck has never been better!” The sky cracked and flaming lightning poured down, volcanoes erupting from every side of him, a sinister flashing going on as existence itself dimmed. “THE HISTORY OF THIS UNIVERSE AS WE KNOW IT IS ABOUT TO END!”
The final party ready screen came up, but in it was just Atma and her Four Heavenly Wives. Already set up and picked for her, nobody else able to come. The Rider of Moon Valley, the Caster of Moon Valley, the Assassin of Moon Valley, and the Avenger of Moon Valley. The pillars of strength that caused Atma to be the Archer of Moon Valley, the Counter Force of California, and the Root of Chivalry, all here to support their true loved one.
For the fate of womankind.
FATAL BATTLE
Haborym came forth, showering the battlefield in mud, flames, poison, anything else he could dredge up. All of it sticky, damaging, damning, and him with three HP bars to cut through. There were the powers of quartz and seals on Gudako’s side, but she had no idea if she had hoarded enough, or was even in the right mystic code. But that didn’t matter now. When it came time to be serious, hardly anyone could match as serious as she got when it looked like nothing else would work.
But then, so did Calafia. She brought forth nothing but buffs and healing and showered the girls in her brightest.
What’s more, Atma made one adjustment and went into full feral Root mode, granting her something Gudako had never seen before on any servant she’d ever commanded.
Her class was entirely unknown. What this entailed, she wasn’t certain, but somehow she now existed outside of the class circles, and none of them looked like they could scratch her. This was going to be good.
With Calafia’s buffs and Atma’s new ascended class, they began immediately cutting the pillar down, in a fury of strikes and cuts, in nothing but the greatest fire imaginable, the flames of creation that would counter the flames of hate that Haborym spread at every move.
Unfortunately for them, Haborym had other plans, and his resistance to the classes of the Four Heavenly Wives made Gudako nervous. This Root better have something up her sleeve, and fast.
Back in the da Vinci lab at Chaldea, everything shook more and more violently, quaking with uncertainty. The three there just prayed. “We’re counting on you….”
Atma heard that and grew stronger, the damage from Haborym cutting further.
Haborym then quaked with an incredible fire, his attack gauge easy and fast to fill, belching down the rain of hell onto the Four Heavenly Wives, taking them out in quick succession.
That was his biggest mistake.
Each one that got knocked out added more and more buffs to Atma, making her more and more invulnerable to the flames of Haborym, her attack strength gaining, her attack gauge charging, and Calafia’s healing outpacing anything he could do to her.
Soon, all four were knocked out, and Atma stood the most defiant she could, her class symbol going haywire as she tapped into the power of all of them at once, an omnipotent servant outside the laws of the common ones or the Grand ones herself, and Haborym soon found himself unable to damage her at all.
“W-What is this meaning of this?” Haborym choked.
“It’s the will of womankind. With each one you hurt, my abilities grow stronger and stronger yet. I am the only demon here, you make a pathetic excuse for one.”
“Who… What are you?”
“The Root of Chivalry. The Swordarm of Alaya. I am your doom, that whom would only bring about death.”
“I should be able to destroy you! Why.. I thought destroying your own four pillars would bring you to your knees!”
“YOU FOOLISH STUPID INSIPID DEMON!” Atma’s voice echoed with the anger of a million generations of womankind. “DO NOT THINK FOR A SECOND THAT IT ISN’T THIS THAT WOULD BRING ME DOWN! I WILL NEVER BOW TO YOU! ON MY FEET IF I MUST DIE, BUT NEVER BOWING TO A DOG LIKE YOU!”
Haborym screamed and lashed out everything he had against her at once, unable still to cut through her defenses.
“Hey Master...” Atma grinned. “While he’s flailing. Let’s do this.”
>>> “IT’S BIG DAMN HERO TIME AIN’T IT? YEEHAW!”
> “I would be honored to fight alongside you.”
With that, Gudako raised her command seals and coated Atma in a light unlike any other. Her Noble Phantasm increased to not only one hundred percent, not only two hundred, but the maximum three hundred percent was gifted to her.
“Too bad it’s my turn now, huh, Haborym?” Atma laughed, her whole body glowing and pulsing in the holy flame she was. “Go back to the corner from whence you came!”
“YOU FOOL! I WILL WIN YET! YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE LAST OF ME! I WILL RUIN YOU! I WILL KILL YOU!”
When Atma activated her Noble Phantasm, it went from the usual casting screen into a full cutscene. This was it. This was serious shit.
“To reach beyond entropy...”
“WHAT? NO! YOU CAN’T POSSIBLY BE ABLE TO TAP INTO THIS POWER! NO! I WAS SO CLOSE! NO NO NO NO! YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THIS!”
“So that I may cut even the Big Bang! Oh, rays of Womankind, guide my blade where it needs to cut! Hoshinagi Onna-Hogo – The Star-Rending Woman-Saving Sword! One final cut for me, the beginning of all others for womankind, from now until the infinite tomorrow! Be gone, you belong not of this world!”
“It…. It can’t be….”
Haborym began to split in two, spewing forth unholy flames in every direction. Atma just glared at him, her face as serious as it can get. In this holiest of forms, it was one of the scariest but most awesome sights Gudako and the others ever saw.
“Go. Get out of California. Get out of the world. I never want to hear of you torturing anyone else again, or I’ll be back, you piece of shit!” Atma roared.
“I’m… No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Haborym took a long, slow dissolving into light, the gold specks that once hosted his massive, twisted form flying off into the edge of creation, hoping that it would send a lesson to the rest of the Goetia not to come here. This land was not there’s.
It was for Calafia. It was for her amazons. It was for all of womankind.
And they had made their stand that day.
~ END OF CHAPTER 14 NODE 1 OF 1
Once all was said and done, and the land restored, Atma stopped glowing, the Root power in her wearing off for now, and sending her back down to her precious ascension.
“Gods, that was tiring.” Atma said cooly, her hand on her own shoulder and rubbing it. “I never thought fixing my own history and Calafia’s would be this messy. Or this loud. That would have made a sick-ass metal album though.”
>>> “HOW THE FUCK DO I ROLL YOU ALREADY”
> “To be placed on par with a being like you has been incredible”
“So, it’s all fixed?” Drake asked.
Atma gestured to the land around her. It was green, it was lush, it was healthy again. “I dunno, you tell me.”
The girls, her amazons of Calafia, all stood around looking at the land before them. This was the real California they had been fighting for, so long. for ages now. The one Atma was proud to call home. The one they defended so staunchly. The cheering of thousands of farmers and those under the rule of the Praetorians filled the skies, clean again, with the sun beginning to set in the west. The brilliant oranges and pinks of it were warming, comforting, the air clean again to breathe once more.
“Hell of a ride I’ll say!” Drake laughed. “That’s what I call a REAL adventure! We definitely did good here today!”
da Vinci popped in, her communicator fixed. “Geeze, yeah, I’ll say.”
“Senpai, you really did it! You and Atma really did it this time! This singularity is starting to read a lot more normal!” Mash beamed. “I’m so proud of you!”
“Next time you’ll remember to trust me with one of my own.” Shiki sighed. “But good work. And long time no see. We can catch up when you get back.”
> “Get back?”
>>> “PARTY TIME AT MY PLACE!”
“Yup, that’s right, Master. Now that you’ve contracted me, I’m obliged to go with you. So are my girls. We’ll all return to your Chaldea safe. What, you think it being the end of the event would stop us and you’d have to summon us again or something? Bah, that’s bad writing! We’re moving in as soon as we can!” Atma laughed. “What’s say we get going after a quick pre-party at Madge’s, huh?”
With that all said and done, it became known through California history as Atma being the one to save it. While most of them would never have any idea of her being an Archer, a Counter Force, or even the Root, there would be a couple people from that state who would be summoned from its history who would. Not just Calafia and Norton. Calafia’s history was rewritten properly, with her living on as the spirit of the state indefinitely, instead of the conquered figure that Cortes originally penned for her.
As for the mortal Atma and her Four Heavenly Wives, they lived out their original lives in peace. Once passed, they became part of the natural force that was the spirit origins, Alaya’s pets, forever shielding her and the women of the universe from further decay. Wherever there was trouble, be it in another badly written past or something much closer to now, or even in a rare future, Atma was one of the first servants that Gudako called upon just in case. Besides, the Master had to agree, she had excellent taste in women. And she appreciated her kouhai and showed her the utmost respect at all times.
“So, this is Chaldea, huh?” Atma smiled as she walked the halls the first time. “Not bad, but I’m hoping you have more room in your kitchen for another chef or two. Madge and I haven’t gotten to cook in some time, and I could use a break from all this Root nonsense. There’s more to being that and Chivalry itself than just fighting all the time. Providing a hot meal helps too!”
The other lady servants would soon learn just how much of a hand Atma had had in forming their stories, all of them relieved to see she made it out of their respective histories unscathed, and that their familiar friend was more than just someone special to them, but special to everyone. Much rejoicing was had upon meeting again, and they’d all talk long into the night.
“So, you proud of yourself?” Shiki asked Atma from atop the roof of Chaldea, as they looked out over the stars. Atma came out here, herself, taking a break from the catching up and all the festivities, wondering how many stars were ones she cut down, or better yet, how many would be born and protected by the very sword that cut others that didn’t belong down.
“Yeah, I think that’s a pretty solid way to solidify myself and all of us in history.”
“You gave us quite a fright.”
“Aha, I’ll have to apologize later huh? I mean, how could they have known there was no way for me to lose?”
“Your powers are infinite and mysterious as mine are, huh? But yes, apologize when you can. I wasn’t about to spoil the suspense for them. You could have sped it up a bit though, you know.”
“I will, I will.”
“And untie that poor goddess already. She paid her debt. I think she can go now.”
“You really do sound like my mom, in so many ways.”
“I know.”
“...We still got a lot of work to do, huh?”
“More than you can ever imagine.”
“Sounds fun.” Atma stood up and reached for the sky, clenching it in her fist and smiling. “Let’s get back to the festivities, shall we?”
“Yes, let’s.”
“It’s good to see you again.”
“Good to see you too.”
The moon rose on Chaldea, the same one that rose on the California that Atma fixed. While the physical Calafia was at Chaldea, she still was able to smile upon her home and protect it from here, and her name was spoken of greatly forever after.
But most importantly, so was Atma’s.
Long may the reign of the Root of Chivalry live! Long live the Weapon!
And women, next time you’re in trouble…
...Wish upon a star. Or a Star-Slaying sword.
You’ll be glad you did.
