CANTO VI – ELECTION NIGHT
And with that said and done the port town did oh so erupt
Into a political wasteland of people both loud and corrupt
They put up posters for themselves and each other up high
Praising themselves and slamming hard on the other guy
The Mayor was never a handsome fellow at all
But compared to Captain Cecily's pic he looked goodly and tall
For one thing he was wise in his choice not to pose
With his teeth bared and sharp and wearing bloodied clothes
The pirate queen's pic was an absolutely horrid disaster
With her demonic eyes all aglow and gore on her hat all plastered
She looked a lot more like a criminal most wanted wide and far
With her body all scaly and her skin covered in old dueling scars
Her grin instilled in the townsfolk nothing but sense of fear and of dread
And anyone who was found mocking her bleak look was soon found dead
The Mayor's own pic was just a simple looking pic of him by his house
Trying his best not to look quite like a piece of scum or a louse
For the first time in his life he cleaned up and tried
For a look to inspire confidence and trust was what he would abide
Unfortunately for the poor bastard he just looked kind of tired
And sadly nobody in town could his pic do admire
It was a nice shot though and at least it wasn't covered in gore
Nor posted over everyone's windows either nor of their doors
The pirate queen's campaign was a smear on the Mayor and on the town
Threatening her naysayers with a keelhauling drown
Vote of her if that was what ye would deign
But a vote against her and yer life she would deny
She would stand on the corners and yell at the women and men
Daring them to oppose her at the polls to only their own chagrin
She would holler and yell from dawn until dusk
She would yell slurs and swears and keep her language quite brusque
Nobody was able to get any a bit of sleep or of rest
So long as Captain Cecily ranted and kept them all stressed
She wanted to win and said it was only quite fair
To imitate the tactics she had seen from their own lowly Mayor
For he too was doing the best job that he could
Shouting his worth up and down every port side neighborhood
Denouncing the queen and her disgusting old ways
Saying only under his rule would they live out their days
In peace and in trade deep would they be
Just do not vote for the sea hag known as Captain Cecily
And if they decided to vote him in
And keep him as their Mayor all over again
He would clean up and change his cheating habits or so he did swear
With that promise sealed, he though the queen had not but a prayer
Any sacrifice was not too much for this man
Doing what for his town now that he can
To keep it from rotting any further inside or out
And up and down the streets he too would yell and shout
The brothels would be cleaner and more full in his reign
And not a barrel of rum or ale would be empty ever again
The food prices would go down and trade would be fairer he claimed
Just do not cast yer name on the ballot in favor of the ghoulish pirate dame
He would bribe and he would plead his townsfolk to do what was right
To vote only for him when it came to be their next election night
Captain Cecily could only laugh loud and hard
Claiming she would yet see this fool's campaign feathered and tarred
He is just a liar can ye not see it in his eyes ye mortal ken
He is only going to fool ye over again and again
ye would be stupid to believe in his lies
It's all these politicians do until the day that they die
Just vote for me
The cavalier corsair Captain Cecily
I will probably kill or ye hurt ye or such
But under his rule it would be better not by much
ye really have no choice this time around ye fools
But to give in and vote for me and start an era of pirate's rule
If ye were nice and went and did my work all in my stead
Perhaps I would spare ye and not make off with yer head
ye could live rather fine
On coin and of wine
On only the best meats ye would dine
Lest ye would rather go sleep in the watery brine
I could arrange that for ye
If ye vote for the fat scummy Mayor the old fool
Obey me and ye will know only a life of sin
Only then would some of yer worthless lives really begin
Would ye not rather a Mayor
Of yer crimes ye commit that she would rather not care
And instead support yer decision to rape and to pillage
Any incoming boat or any nearby small village
Come on give in and become my willing slaves
It would give ye a decent and fair working wage
ye know ye want it ye really have a choice not in this matter
Lest yer brains against the wall I dash and I splatter
This town will be my port and my home
While more territory ye conquer so I need not go roam
What do ye say ye stupid mortal fool men
What do ye say ye stupid mortal fool women
It worked out for me more than okay
To be a pirate and stealing right out of the bay
ye make so much coin and can take anyone's life
Of gems and of rum I promise ye would be all full and rife
With happiness unrivaled it is the only way to be free
Just go to the polls and vote for me, the cavalier corsair Captain Cecily
There is no good in this world and there never has been
There are all just lies told to ye by corrupt clergy and kin
Humans and elves and dwarves are blessed in this world at all not
Killing and stealing may be all that ye got
It got me this far and it will take me farther all still
It can be the life ye can lead too if only ye will
Unless ye kind are the ones all too moral for yer own lives
Feeling all humble in only trading and farming and taking honest fat wives
That is too boring and if ye vote for me this next eve
From this maddening droll I would grant ye reprieve
The Mayor that ye vote for before would only give up in a week
His promises are too grand and his words are too sleek
He has expended not a bit of effort in all of his days
How can ye be so blind to his cheap cheating ways
A cheat I may be as well but at least I fake not being modest
Would ye not rather a Mayor who was honest
As me ye will find no other to tell ye the truth
Vote for me and not the Mayor ye have now, all fat and uncouth
Captain Cecily had become all too good at this political game
Creating the perfect and most horrible of smearing campaigns
There was no way any of this the Mayor could refute
His words would just be twisted up and rendered but moot
The only thing he could do now was trust in his people far and wide
To do the right thing the next eve over this whole mess now beside
They closed up their words and their debate now long ended
Both of them ranting endlessly and both of them long winded
The poor chumps back in our town had no idea what they could do
Some were tempted by the pirate queen's offer and the idea of riches now too
Yet still some of them sides with their current Mayor and his words
Even if he was not a sailor like them and knew not of trading or swords
The town was now split in an even half down the line
Making tensions between them hard and thick until it was voting time
It had become an utter mockery
Of the idea of a democracy
It was nothing but wholesale intimidation as anyone could see
Stuck between a shitty old Mayor or the cavalier corsair Captain Cecily
Why bother calling it fair and balanced at all these days
If only one of two sides were going to get any of their ways
No third party option nor any way to add in names on the ballot
No way to offer up a third man from the port they did inhabit
ye had to choose one or the other as well in this vote
None of this choosing neither and both of them denote
And all too soon came the day
That they would a new Mayor choose for the bay
Lines quiet and tense made their way out the door
Checking their ballots for one name and no more
Into the box they were stuffed and tallied on high
The name of the new Mayor to be announced on nigh
It was a race most close the whole time that it was my good ser
And into the eve ballots were cast and counted as it were
When the polls were closed, a silence heavy was cast
Until a winner was announced at a very long last
It was the Mayor that they had before who won by an inch
Captain Cecily's loss making her fidget and flinch
And at once she drew out a long tight old noose
And cast it over the Mayor's neck making sure it not loose
Drug him off in an instant in her mighty red rage
This whole political scandal she would soon go upstage
And on the bottom of her ship she drug him and tied
To the keel good and hard and there she did cry
Out that her revenge and her loss would not stand
And The Blind Whore she did steer out away from the land
As fast as she could make the winds fill her sails full
Dragging behind her the Mayor, the fat fool
Until he was choked and lifeless under the sea
Keelhauled at the hands of cavalier corsair Captain Cecily
In an act of treason she acted fast
Killing the Mayor in an act quite rash
But she then came back and declared herself the winner after all
And so began an era known to most as Cape Korre's grand fall
If ye expected this story to end differently than it did
With her finding a way for the Mayor she would rid
Then I do not know what to say to ye at this point in time
Given that I am not even halfway done with my rhyme
Captain Cecily's tale is long and is horrid and gory yet still
So sit around another while and listen in if ye will
This scandal was just the beginning of worse things to come
We have even worse tales to tell and more and then some
This is all just a setup for her at her worst and her best
The messiest and meanest of tales and coming up next
By now ye should all know too well
Captain Cecily will win or she will send ye to hell
Not an ounce of remorse flows through her veins icy blue cold
She is a pirate and killer, one most angry and bold
There are no happy endings for this story in sight for a while yet
For she is a woman who knows no mercy or regret
But since ye are here still and willing to listen to my song
No matter how I ramble or holler or how long I go on
I promise to entertain ye all the more
Of tales of piracy rampant once upon our shores
If ye would like we can tour more of the town while I talk and ramble
From tavern to tavern we can travel and can amble
Whatever it is ye would like to see with yer eyes two
I can sing and can talk all the while by this mighty ocean blue
Piracy rampant on a silvery glittered sandy shore
And tales of violence and scandal throughout all of Cape Korre
More tales to come from me unto thee
Of cavalier corsair Captain Cecily
