AUTUMN 2019 A.D.

SONOMA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, USA

The Archer of Moon Valley found herself in another area wreathed by fire. One by one, using Hoshigiri, she would cut the fire out and down, fanning it to embers and then nothing at all. Something about the sword granted it dominion over such things that were born outside of the hands of one human’s ability, and the sheer incompetence of PG&E definitely counted on some cosmic level. This was not an unfamiliar scene to her; just a couple years prior there were more of these, scarring the lands just around her house as well. Then more erupted the year after to the northeast, its ashes and dust raining down from afar on her home and making her sick enough to need hospital rest.

However, something changed in this fire, this “accident.” Time itself ran a different course than it should have, and Atma found herself in the middle of it all, smirking. In spire of everything, a smile graced her face, because she knew the flames within her would burn brighter and be used to cook, warm, protect, and create; the opposite of what these tyrants were doing with theirs.

“So, at last, the time has come, and this version of history is meant to play out…” she huffed. “I guess that can only mean one thing...”

She began to look back on the past.

AUTUMN 2017 A.D.

SONOMA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, USA

Atma stood in shock and disgust, looking around at her homeland, now scorched black, with not a single tear shed by those that sparked it. A voice from the back of her mind, one that sounded just like her own, whispered to her “This is only the beginning. Prepare.”

And so she did, and took to helping her people, and praying to her gods that something could be done that she could endure this or anything else that would come. The voice was convincing enough. And through that prayer, her gods reached the center of the universe, and immediately granted her status as a Heroic Spirit. It had happened before a few times, and it would happen again. But to think someone just trying to live her life and be of reliable help to her loved ones.

It would prove to be either he biggest mistake or her greatest move. Only time and the gods would know for sure.

AUTUMN 2018 A.D.

SONOMA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, USA

Soot was raining down from the northeast. A whole town, gone, just like that. But her body was giving out, and it was frail and sick, and she spent the winter convalescing instead of training and helping. Every second not in action frustrated the poor girl beyond words. She sat in her bed, thinking, begging people to pay attention to this. But to also look back at the pattern started the year before, before it would be too late.

It was so very unfortunate that that had come to pass.

CURRENT DAY A.D.

FORT BRAGG, MENDOCINO COAST, CALIFORNIA, USA

Atma was deep in sleep as her past cycled through her memory. It was only in these times was she able to receive messages from a mysterious figure, only hearing her voice, her outline suggesting that of someone of great royal blood and power. But for all she tried, even by the light of the thousands of acres of flames around her, even by the sun she worshiped so much, she couldn’t make out any other detail about this woman.

But her voice gave her hope.

As the Archer slept, she was told many things. Guidance. From this woman. They sounded motherly, but also like she’d been intimate and familiar with her for some time. A comforting entity without a name to call her yet.

“Atma… Atma….” she began to call forth.

The Archer got up and wandered around in her dream, seeing but a small lake, an oasis in the flames that covered her dreams as much as they did the land around her. “Yes, milady?”

“You must not give up hope yet… If you can turn the tide, I’ll be free, and within me you’ll find the boundless strength you need to reclaim your land. After all, it’s my land too. It’s all of ours.”

“You’re being vague again. How many dreams is this now? At least give me a name after all this time.”

The mysterious figure laughed. “This is why I chose you as my leader of the Amazons you are now collecting. The ones of myth. You will lay proud the golden girdles on the beasts you will ride brazen into battle. You will make our mythology a reality. With who you are, your potential yet...”

“That’s not a name.”

“You’re right, it’s not. For now though, I suppose you can refer to me as the Ruler of Calida Fornax. We will meet in time, but your power is not yet great enough. Gather more, head south, head east, climb the horrible, burning, mechanical beast they’ve brought before you and let us know the beauty of a true sunset once more.”

“A Ruler… You’re a servant like me? With dream hopping powers?”

“Something like that.”

“At least you’re giving me a cool title. And a lot of faith in me. I mean, I do have a way with the ladies.”

A warm, golden surge of power filled Atma as she flirted, her form changing from that of a cowboy with a katana to one with a cape, spiked bracelets, sunglasses, and motorcycle boots. This porn was getting weird.

Suddenly, the vision got blurry, and another familiar voice shout from outside of the dream

> “Wakey wakey, eggs and bacy”
>>> “Haha look she’s kissing her pillow”

Atma blinked and grumbled. “Hey there, Master. Got anything better to do than watch me sleep?”

“Oh, hey, you ascended?” Bianca pointed out as Atma rose and stretched.

“Did I? Gudako have you been pushing nuggets and mats into me as I sleep?”

>>> “I’m a doctor, trust me”
> “Well yeah, that’s how singularities do”

“She did it to me too and look at me!” Nobu beamed from across the room, their voice a bit deeper. “I’m a real boy now!”

“Oh, yeah, you and your genderless trait. All I get is female on paper but treated as male in the coding. Lucky shit.”

Almost everyone had hit about ascension level two, which meant more for the goodguys, and a much harder time for the Nazis and the unlucky capitalist goons of PG&E.

“Damn I look cool though.”

“What kind of fashion is this?” Drake stared at Atma, both amused and confused.

“She’s definitely one of a kind, I’ll say that. No wonder the powers that be decided she could become a servant; I don’t see a lot of you dressing nearly as cool!” da Vinci laughed. “It’s beautiful in her own way, you all could stand to learn something from her. That’s what real art is all about!”

“Senpai, good work out there. Do you have any idea where you’re all going to next?” Mash asked.

“I think it’s about time we hooked up with another one of my Four Heavenly Wives over at The Geysers.” Atma replied. “The Geysers are a row of, well, geysers and hot springs out to the south east, bordering both Mendocino and Sonoma county in that corner. It’s home to one of the world’s strongest and only geothermal plants. Naturally, this means PG&E wants it for their own. One of the most recent fires was actually started near there, making the terrain hot and hard to navigate, thankfully. But I don’t know how much longer they can last out there, and without them this whole area would lose its main source of power, and that’s the last thing we need. These hand crank and gas guzzling generators are a huge pain, and they’re liable to just explode from the heat, too.”

“Brilliant plan.” da Vinci smiled. “I know you mentioned California was host to a lot of natural hot springs and such, but I wasn’t updated on the fact they’d been using it for power.”

“Trust us, if it’s not PG&E, we in Northern California definitely want to try to use it instead. It’s a resilient piece of machinery though, I’ll give it that.” Atma adjusted herself in the mirror one more time and grinned. “Looks like I gained another useful skill, too. I think you’ll like this one when it comes time to annoy our little brother again. You know he’s definitely going to keep trying. Though speaking of trying, we really ought to pack up our shit and get going.”

“Well, this area of Mendocino looks secure enough. There’s a lot of the hardened farmers and Madge’s girls on patrol; they’re all armed to the teeth as well.” Nobu added, also hogging the mirror to look how cool he was. He and Atma spent some time flipping their cards around to show their names changing and laughing. Idiots. Two of them.

“Y’all batters ready to stop your harpin’ tidrick or am I gonna have to go sharkin’ upside y’all’s heads?” Madge grinned. “But of course my apples know how to duke a deeger or two and right blue bird ‘em. This region will stay sunnies as the day for now. Y’all coming along or not?”

“Nonch much longer, sweet Molly.” Atma boonted back at. “Let’s get heading out to the Geysers.”

~ END CHAPTER 4 NODE 1

Back at the main tower of PG&E, the two Avengers sat frustrated at the Assassin’s failed coup on the fort and getting the jump on Atma and her gang. They were much more concerned about her than they were the Master. At least, for now. Atma had far too strong an Independent Acting trait for all this, and that always meant the enemy of that Archer was at that much greater risk.

The Berserker stood up and growled. “I’ll take it back! I’ll do so just like I used to take everything else back in that day! Those children of mine show no respect, and I’ll start by taking that precious geothermal spot they’re so eager for!”

The man smiled. “Akechi! Nobukatsu! We’re going out together! I’ll make sure we stop your siblings in their tracks one way or another!”

“H-Hooray fa-- I mean, Berserker of Sekigahara.” Nobukatsu wringed his hands together.

Akechi just mumbled something about him dying before that event, but oh well, these names rarely made that much sense when it came to who had it and what their origin was or even what the chapter or plot was about. He just was raring to go to set the plant ablaze and hopefully trap the Oda siblings in it and get his revenge once more. Maybe then he’d be this new Berserker’s favorite chief and finally get the recognition for his brilliance he deserved.

“Make sure you actually take the Archer out if nothing else this time!” one of the Avengers growled in the distance.

“Yes, we’ve felt some… disturbances happening lately as we slumber. Like someone is trying to cloud our vision with a golden light so bright it takes anything from our eyes’ sight and erases it. We feel like it’s the same being that’s been giving the Archer her longevity and willpower.” the other Avenger chimed in.

“You have my word as a fellow conqueror that you will have all that land and more back!” the Berserker pounded his fist on the table, a familiar flower insignia hanging off the banner on his back. This one wasn’t quite the Oda one, but it was just to the left of it. If only anyone knew their history, they could claim this man’s true name in an instant. He never was that smart to not leave such an obvious clue hidden in plain sight.

With that, the three teleported away and began their march towards The Geysers, leading on a bunch of living armor with samurai masks and katana, some with spears, and some with arrows. Even more yet, some had horses.

It wasn’t going to be a pretty battle.

But here’s hoping that this guy’s reputation for losing it all in the end would come true once more.

The two teams were about to merge at The Geysers and wage clan war all over again, right in the middle of California.
